From Gamathon to AI Week: The Rooms Building Nigeria’s Next Tech Wave

Gamathon has closed its Lagos run, but the energy it created is still moving through the country’s tech scene. Over six days, Africacomicade brought together game developers, animators, comic creators, XR builders, investors and fans around one clear idea: African creative technology deserves spaces where people can learn, show their work and meet the people who can help it grow.

Held from 26 to 31 October, Gamathon 2026 moved from workshops and masterclasses to a Women in Games Mixer, city experiences and an Industry Day that opened the door to panels, exhibitions, showcases, networking, business conversations and gaming competitions. Its Lagos finale made something clear: the line between “creative” and “technical” work is getting harder to draw.

A game studio needs the same things as many software startups: the right tools, a discoverable product, reliable infrastructure, a paying audience and partners who understand the vision. An animator working with motion capture, a developer shipping an indie title and a founder building an AI product may not work in the same category, but they increasingly face the same questions about talent, funding, distribution and community.

That is why Gamathon matters. It is more than a place to play new games. It gives creators a route from first idea to public showcase, while making the ecosystem more visible to collaborators, customers and investors.

What Gamathon reminds organisers

Good events are not built on a poster alone. They are built on the experience surrounding the room: a clear event page, straightforward registration, timely communication, reliable check-in and thoughtful follow-up. When the operational work is simple, organisers can pay closer attention to the people they brought together.

This is where TavernCentral fits in. Whether an event is a campus workshop, a small product community, a showcase or an industry conference, TavernCentral helps organisers publish event pages, manage free or paid registrations, communicate with attendees and check guests in using QR codes. The goal is simple: make it easier to turn a strong idea into a well-run gathering.

Where the conversation goes next

Nigeria’s calendar does not slow down after Gamathon. The week of 2 to 8 November offers several distinct spaces for people who want to stay connected to what is being built across the country.

Nigeria Blockchain and AI Week takes place on 6 and 7 November at Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. It is the week’s largest gathering, bringing AI, blockchain, Web3, payments, policy, investment and startup conversations into the same venue. It is a strong choice for founders and operators looking for a big-picture view of the technologies and partnerships shaping Nigeria’s digital economy.

For developers, DevFest Ilorin runs from 6 to 7 November at Ilorin Innovation Hub. The programme offers a practical, community-first space for learning, technical exchange and meeting people who are building with similar tools.

On 7 November, the calendar spreads across the country. Anambra Web3 Conference 3.0 takes place in Awka. AI Meet Abuja holds its November edition at Impact Hub Abuja. Enugu hosts an n8n workshop focused on hands-on API and automation workflows. These smaller rooms can be the best option when a local connection or a focused technical conversation is more useful than a giant conference hall.

Choose the room that serves your goal

Before you register, decide what you want from the event. Looking for investors, partnerships or market context? Nigeria Blockchain and AI Week may be the right room. Need practical developer learning? DevFest Ilorin is the stronger fit. Want a focused community conversation on AI, Web3 or automation? The gatherings in Abuja, Awka and Enugu are worth the trip.

Then attend with a plan. Read the agenda. Decide which sessions are genuinely relevant. Introduce yourself to two people whose work you want to understand, and follow up within 48 hours. The value of an event is rarely the stage alone. It is the conversation at a booth, the connection after a panel and the message you send once you are back at your desk.

Gamathon showed what happens when Nigeria’s creative-technology community makes room for its own work. This week offers another chance to keep that momentum going.
